Get started GMing for free with PDFs of the OSRIC Player Guide and the OSRIC Gamemaster Guide. These rules sets are close enough to Advanced Dungeons & Dragons to learn how to GM for free before diving in with either copies of these rulebooks or reprints of AD&D.
Getting Started
For under $90 for POD and PDF as of this article, you can run a fantasy RPG using the three hardcovers rulebooks that Gary Gygax wrote now called First Edition (Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual). Once you have the books, where do you get started? One option is to get legal PDFs of the adventures penned by Gary Gygax himself: Temple of Elemental Evil – TSR Super Module) and get started. For under $40 as of this writing, you can also get hardcovers of the adventure for both First and Fifth Edition: Original Adventures Reincarnated #6: The Temple of Elemental Evil.
